The fauna of the Danube Delta is a vast mosaic of species ( spread on land, on the aquatic plants, in water and on the floating reed islets), unparalleled on our European continent, having even some world unique specimens. | ||

The ornitofauna counts aprox.280 species, with 177 endemic species and 70 species which come from other continents.Thus, from Asia come here the brown golden eagle, the white hoitar, the big egret, the summer swan, the big eagle owl, the rattling duck, the wild goose, the winter swan, the big culicul. From the Arctic region come the big garlita, the golden flover, fugaciul de tarm. From the Mediteranean area come here the common pelican, the curly pelican, the cormorant, birds which nestle only in the delta of the Danube and of the Volga rivers.The endemic species include the herons, the falcons and the eagles. | ||

The Danube Delta is also higly appreciated for the quality and quantity of fish,reported being more than 110 species, out of which 36 in the delta itself. The waters of the Danube arms, where the course is more rapid, are populated with carp, zander,sheat fish,beluga, Black Sea sturgeon, sevruga, sterlet,, while the calm lakes located between the arms, give shelter to bream, pike, roach and caracul. |
