The Danube Delta
The Last Sanctuary of Nature
The Delta region is a plain in permanent formation made out of a positive relief( bank ridges tops) and negative relief (The Danube arms, canals, brooks, lacustrian depressions,swamps).
The delta land represents only 13% of its surface and is made out of :
- longitudinal fluvial bank ridges tops;
- fluvio-maritime bank ridges tops (Letea-12,4 m altitude; Caraoman, Saraturile, Ivancea, Dranov);
- continental bank ridges tops which represent remnants of a pre-Delta land from Bugeacului Plain zone, located North of Chilia Arm( for example Chilia top made out of loess, which has an altitude of 6,4 m).
