The vegetation of the Danube Delta is extremely rich. Estimates show that 1150 species of plants grow here. The following herbaceous plants can be mentioned: the white water lilyand the yellow water lily,the frogbit,the water plantain,the water caltrop,the common reed, the mace reed,the water fern,the water cock sorrel,the water poison hemlock,,etc.The floating reed islet is an association of aquatic plants whose roots are interwoven with the rhizomes of common reed( rhizomes of dry common reed and humus), thus forming up a kind of " floating islands" with a width of up to 1 m.Sometimes, they break into smaller pieces which are either gone with the wind or carried down by water.A formation of floating reed islet consists of about 20 plants arranged into a certain order.
Common reed alongwith ferns and horsemint grow on these floating reed islets while in the waters surrounding one can notice firwood ……….. Representative for the wood vegetation are: the white willow,the poplar, the alder tree, the ashtree, the combined forests of Letea and Caraorman bank ridges tops.The vegetation of the Danube delta also has a rare(floating) carnivorous,aquatic plant named Aldrovanda.
